Joanna cares deeply about this community and will work hard on your behalf as a North Cowichan Councillor.  She is  passionate about fighting for:

Housing & Homelessness

Taking decisive action to end homelessness and ensure North Cowichan residents have the housing they need

  • Secure federal and provincial funding for affordable housing projects 

  • Work collaboratively with residents, businesses, social service providers and the RCMP to improve neighbourhood safety

  • Adopt the “Four Pillar” approach to respond to the opioid crisis, with focus on prevention, treatment, harm reduction and enforcement

  • Advocate to the senior levels of government to do more to address the problems of homelessness, mental health and addictions impacting our community

Sustainability

Focussing on food security and supporting local business so North Cowichan can thrive now and in the future

  • Support initiatives to enhance food security and local agricultural systems

  • Promoting food and fiber independence and resiliency

  • Maintain and update our 
    infrastructure

  • Focus development in areas that can absorb growth efficiently near existing centres â€‹

Environment & Economy

Ensuring a balance between protecting our environment and a strong economy that supports living wages
 

  • Protect and regenerate our natural environment

  • Help turn North Cowichan into a climate leader

  • Support a local regenerative economy

  • Promote a 'shop local' approach​

  • Ensure responsible government spending and taxation

  • Streamline the development approval process to build housing faster and increase local supply

  • Update North Cowichan’s outdated zoning bylaw to facilitate development in our growth centres

 

Rural Character & Safety

Maintaining North Cowichan's beautiful rural character and making sure our neighbourhoods stay safe

  • Support initiatives to make our communities safe, resilient, inclusive, and healthy

  • Work together to find ways to enhance our quality of life

  • Work together to advance reconciliation

  • Seek provincial and federal funding for affordable childcare and accessible housing options
